Tune-Up

Regular maintenance service of your car or truck is one of the best ways to extend your vehicle’s lifespan and protect your investment. A regular vehicle check-up is essential since normal wear and tear of engine parts will necessitate them being replaced or maintained (depending on mileage). Whether it is an oil change + filter, spark plugs, verifying your tire pressure, brakes, transmission fluids or battery, we are here to keep your vehicle running smoothly. A regularly maintained vehicle will boost engine performance and fuel economy. With routine maintenance, your vehicle will be less likely to break down – avoiding costly repairs in the future. A well-maintained vehicle will increase its overall value and lifespan. A regular tune-up can also avoid an accident or collision down the road. A poorly maintained vehicle is a road hazard – not to mention the fines you can incur, like a 48-hour warning, if you happen to be stopped by the authorities. Here are some elements to verify during a tune-up: the ignition system (spark plugs, coils, ignition wires, distributor caps, and rotar), filters (air, cabin air, oil, fuel, pcv valve), fluids (engine oil, brake fluid, transmission fluid, coolant), belts and hoses (timing belt, belt tensioner, serpentine belt, radiator hose). Fuel Injection

What is fuel injection? Fuel injection is the direct introduction of fuel under pressure by means of an injector, into a vehicle’s combustion units. Concerned about your vehicle’s fuel efficiency, power output, driveability, emissions performance, and reliability? Our professional team here at Inter Auto Repairs will inform you as to whether or not your existing fuel injector needs to be replaced or serviced. Enjoy better gas mileage, carbon deposits removed, cleaner emissions, a smoother and more consistent transient throttle response, and increased performance. If an owner has neglected regular maintenance of their vehicle (like filter replacements, tune-up, oil changes, etc) there is a good chance the fuel injectors will need servicing or replacement.

Brakes Inspection

Expert brake maintenance is essential if you care about your safety and that of your passengers. In fact, brakes are probably the most critical of safety systems within your vehicle, and can mean the difference between life and death. Over time your car’s brake pads will begin to wear thin. Brake pad replacement is the most common form of brake service job. Generally your brake pads should be one-quarter of an inch in thickness. Any thinner than this and it is a good idea to get them changed. Basic warning signs that something might be wrong with the brakes are: unusual noises/your brakes squeal, your brake warning light is on (could be low on brake fluid), hard or squishy (like a sponge) brake pedal when pressed down, shaky car or vibrating sound felt when applying brakes, slow brake response times when stepping on brake pedal/inability to brake vehicle quickly (could result in an accident) . During a brake inspection the entire brake system is verified: rotars, calipers, brake pedal, brake fluid condition, brake lines, brake hoses, brake assemblies (whether for disc brakes or drum brakes), inspect for master cylinder leaks, lines, fittings, modules, junction blocks, check emergency brake adjustments, etc. Have the confidence that your brakes are working safely and optimally.

Tires

Does your vehicle need new tires? Having good tires can mean the difference between safe driving and experiencing an accident. Common indicators your  tires need replacing include: weathering, bulging, depth of tire treads, vibrating tires, and age of tires. Tread depth should be gauged regularly. To gauge a tire’s tread depth, all that is needed is a quarter. Put the quarter into one of the tire tread grooves. If the top of the head pictured on the quarter is flush with the tread, you have about 4/32 inch of tread remaining. This means that you have some grip remaining for driving in rainy or snowy conditions. This is the time to begin to shop for new tires. If the head on the quarter is covered, your tires are still fine. However, if the head  is visible then the tread is worn down and your tires need to be replaced. At Inter Auto Repairs we never grow tired of helping our customers choose the tires that are right for them – depending on factors such as the climate and terrain you commonly drive in, your driving style, your driving needs, etc. Whether it be all-season, summer, or winter tires we have the right option for you at the right time of year. Need your tires installed, balanced, and mounted on wheels?

Suspension

It is important to verify and maintain your vehicle’s suspension system, especially when driving on roads such as the ones found here in Quebec. The three main components of a suspension system are: the shock absorbers, springs, and struts. The suspension system’s primary purpose is to keep a vehicle in contact with the road, while providing a certain degree of comfort for driver and passengers. A reliable suspension system will improve a vehicle’s overall fuel efficiency and result in less vehicle maintenance. Shock absorbers, springs, and struts all suffer from wear and tear, just like any other part of your vehicle, and need to be replaced or maintained. Worn suspension components also reduce the stability and control of your vehicle. Bad suspension can accelerate the wear and tear on other suspension system components. For example, an imbalance within your suspension system could very easily produce uneven wear and tear on your tires and accelerate tire weathering – forcing you to change your tires prematurely. Are your shock absorbers worn out? Do you notice your vehicle swaying or dipping while turning? These are just a few symptoms your suspension system needs to be checked out. Come and visit Inter Auto Repairs for a complete expert inspection of your suspension system today.

Clutch

The way you drive and the amount of maintenance performed on your vehicle all have a substantial impact on the lifespan and performance of your clutch. A clutch can last up to 125,000 kilometres, if well maintained and treated with care. However, not taking care of your clutch can result in it lasting no longer than 56,000 kilometres. The clutch is a part of a vehicle that is subject to almost a constant degree of usage and friction. Over a period of time, even the most carefully applied clutch will wear itself down and be in need of replacement. If you suspect you may have a problem with your clutch is it important to seek the expertise and experience of a professional mechanic. All clutches should be checked that are over 100,000 kilometres. The most serious problem for a clutch is ‘slipping’, a problem that is fairly easy for a driver to identify. Slipping basically refers to when a clutch disengages and no power is being delivered to the wheels in order to drive or propel the vehicle forward. At Inter Auto Repairs, we will perform a multi-point inspection and diagnostic service to determine any clutch issues your vehicle may have.

Mufflers

The muffler is an important part of your vehicle’s exhaust system. The two main functions of a muffler are: 1) to redirect and reduce exhaust system noise; 2) to help filter exhaust gases out of the engine. When a muffler functions at its best, it is quiet and shouldn’t be noticed. It is important to have your muffler in proper working order and to watch out for any signs of common muffler problems. A broken or damaged muffler may cause your vehicle to seem louder than normal. Does your muffler have holes or rust in it? Then it is time to get it replaced. Do you notice unusually high engine temperatures? This may be the sign of a muffler or exhaust system problem, which can cause your engine to overheat or misfire. A muffler that functions well can promote an increase in gas mileage. Holes in a muffler can interrupt the flow of exhaust coming out from your vehicle. Exhaust leaks can also affect an engine’s oxygen sensors. Oxygen sensors are a part of an engine’s fuel injection system and play an important role in managing fuel consumption. Inaccurate readings from the sensors can cause a decline in fuel economy. Is there a persistent smell in your vehicle? This may indicate that your exhaust system isn’t working properly, since a primary function of a muffler is to filter exhaust gases and harmful fumes out of your car. Call or visit Inter Auto Repairs today and let us help you determine whether or not your muffler needs to be replaced.
